After receiving many requests from previous guests, Hacienda Puerta del Cielo will begin offering Vacation Packages for families with children.
Our new Family Vacation Packages have been designed with families in mind. We have included fun and educational excursions suitable for you and your children.
To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all Hacienda Guests, please consider the following points before booking your family vacation:
- CHILDREN MUST BE SUPERVISED BY PARENTS AT ALL TIMES. Our 60-acre property hugs the cliff-like rim of the ancient caldera which overlooks Volcan Masaya National Park. This is 54 sq. km park is a protected tropical forest and wildlife reserve. For their safety, children must be supervised at all times while at the Hacienda and are not permitted to venture away from the main buildings nor roam about the grounds unattended.
- VERY IMPORTANT POOL SAFETY RULES. Our “lazy river pool” is over 5 feet deep in some spots and is not gated, nor supervised by a lifeguard. Children may enjoy our pool and pool terrace only if supervised by parents. Jumping into the pool or running on the pool terrace is dangerous and strictly prohibited. As a courtesy to all other Hacienda Guests, loud music may not be played on the pool terrace.
- KID-FRIENDLY MEALS & FOOD SAFETY. Along with our delicious Nicaraguan specialty of the day, we also offer kid-friendly options, (PBJ, grilled cheese, chicken fingers…). Please note that food and snacks can only be consumed in our dining area. NO FOOD MAY BE BROUGHT into Casitas nor onto the pool terrace, as this will attract wildlife!
- ACCOMMODATIONS.
“Family Suite”:
We have one Family Suite at the Hacienda which can accommodate families of up to 4 members. Our Family Suite consists of one Casita with a Bedroom with a Queen bed and ensuite bathroom and a Living Room with two Day Beds for children or young adults! Enjoy the large covered patio with a Hammock and seating area.
Nicaragua Family Adventure – 6 days/5 nights
The “Green Season” in Nicaragua runs from mid-May through mid-November. It is when the Nicaraguan landscape is most lush and verdant. During the Green Season, rainfall usually occurs in the early morning hours and in short bursts in the afternoon. The daily rains refresh the air and maintain ideal temperatures at the Hacienda. Rainfall does not interfere with daytime tours. The three fabulous excursions included in this package are:
- Daytime visit to the Colonial City of Granada,* founded in 1524 and believed to be the oldest European settlement on the American continent. Here your children will learn how Granada survived repeated pirate and mercenary attacks. You’ll climb 72 narrow and winding steps in the bell tower of a historic church which remained standing after Granada was burned to the ground by intruders! Next, we’ll visit the ChocoMuseo to learn about the history of chocolate, its importance in the Mayan culture, as well as, to sample hand-made chocolate treats! You’ll have a chance to step back-in-time with a stroll on the cobblestone streets surrounding the historic Spanish Colonial Central Plaza. This daytime tour will also take you on a cool and tranquil boat ride through the tiny islands called, “Las Isletas.” When your boat reaches “Monkey Island” -if you dare- you may choose to interact with Lucy the spider monkey! Sit back and relax on this small boat tour, as the local boatman points out nesting birds and interesting flower species along the way!
- Daytime visit to Volcano Masaya National Park!** After entering the National Park we will first visit the Vulcanology Museum, where your children will learn about the “ring of fire,” how volcanoes are formed and the many types of animals and insects found in the park. Next, we’ll drive you to the summit of the active volcano! Once there, you will walk just a few yards to the rim where you can peer into the abyss and witness the red molten lava churning within the Santiago Crater.
- Daytime visit to the picturesque hilltop town of Catarina, for its breathtakingly sweeping vistas of lakes and volcanoes. Next, you will visit a rustic pottery workshop in the tiny artisanal village of San Juan de Oriente where your children will learn how local craftsmen preserve their ancestors customs and traditions by maintaining the ancient Mayan pottery-making techniques.
This Package for a Family of 3 or 4 includes;
- 6 Days / 5 Nights in “Family Suite”.
- Meals are served at specific times on the Hacienda’s dining terrace for Guests who chose to remain at the hotel throughout the day: Complimentary Breakfast is offered from 7:30 AM until 9:00 AM; Lunch is served at 12:00 noon and Dinner is served at 7:00 PM. - Round-trip airport transfers for 3 or 4 family members traveling together, from Managua Int’l Airport to Hacienda Puerta del Cielo. An advance reservation is required. (Please note that evening flights do not arrive in time for our 7:00 PM dinner service or 5:00 PM appetizer.)
- A complimentary Welcome Cocktail for parents and a Fruit Juice for your children at the Upstairs Bar on the day of your arrival! (One complimentary beverage per person).
- Daily Complimentary Appetizer served at 5:00 PM at our Upstairs Bar.
- Granada & Isletas Boat Tour, departs at 8:30 AM/returns at 3:00 PM. Lunch is not provided at the hotel – you will purchase your own meals in Granada. Please note: Food & refreshments consumed outside of our Hacienda are not included in the price of vacation packages or any other individual tours.
- Masaya Volcano, departs at 9:30 AM/returns at 2:00 PM. Lunch is not provided at the hotel – you will purchase your own meals in Masaya. Please note: Food & refreshments consumed outside of our Hacienda are not included in the price of vacation packages or any individual tours.
- Pottery Village & Catarina Tour, departs at 9:30 AM/returns at 2:00 PM. Lunch is not provided at the hotel – you will purchase your own meals in Catarina. Family Escape – 4 days/3 nights
Experience Hacienda Puerta del Cielo Ecolodge’s lush tropical setting with sweeping vistas of Volcán Masaya National Park, while relaxing on the deck of your own Family Suite! The comfortably appointed Family Suite, enjoys spectacularly expansive views of the active and continuously smoking Masaya Volcano, located at a 5 km distance. We have two “Large Casitas” which can accommodate a family of three, as well as, and only one “Family Suite” available for a family of four. So make your reservations early!
This package for a Family of 3 or 4 includes;
- 4 Days / 3 Nights in a “Large Casita” or “Family Suite.“
