Mombacho Cloud Forest Reserve Hike

At 1344 meters above sea level, Mombacho is considered to be Latin America’s most spectacular Cloud Forest. Home to over 800 species of plants, 174 species of birds and 30 species of reptiles, Mombacho Cloud Forest is a nature lover’s dream!  Here you will find a misty, 2,500-acre protected reserve, filled with colorful birds, tree frogs, butterflies, orchids, bromeliads and many other exotic species of flora and fauna.

Your 1.5 km (1 mile) hike on Mombacho’s “Crater Trail,” is a self-guided hike over a clearly marked, (yet somewhat slippery and inclined), hiking path. Average physical ability and good walking shoes are required.  Please note that 24 hour advance reservations and additional fees will apply in order to hike on any trail other than the “Crater Trail.”  An english speaking Park Ranger with knowledge of the Flora and Fauna of the Park is available an additional cost. Please inquire for availability.

Duration:  5 hours

Departs by: 8:45 AM returns about 3:30 PM.  Lunch away.  (Please note that the cost of food and drinks are not included in the price of any of our excursions).

Mombacho Cloud Forest Hike with Zip-Line Adventure

You may choose to add the “Zip-Line Adventure” to your hike on the “Crater Trail.” During the Zip-Line portion of the tour,  you will soar through the tree-tops of the forest canopy and see jungle life from a new perspective.  Your expert and safety-certified, English-speaking guides will thoroughly explain the equipment and assist you at every turn, from the moment you leave the ground until you descend back down to the forest floor. Lunch at “Cafe Flores” on the Mombacho’s working Coffee Plantation is not included in the tour price.

Clothing recommendations:  Due to the elevation and misty conditions at the summit, you may need a light jacket or cover-up.  Closed, comfortable walking or hiking shoes are required and, as always, mosquito repellent is recommended.
